His fingertip gently wiped away a tear that had escaped down my cheek. "That's part of it," he said. "But also... well, you and I will both be Lissa's gaurdians someday. I need to protect her at all cost. If a pack of Strogoi come, I need to throw my body between them and her." 
I know that. Of course that's what you have to do." The black sparkles were dancing in front of my eyes again. I was fading out. 
"No. If I let myself love you, I will not throw myself in front of her. I  will throw myself in front of you.

Suffering from Sandovskys Syndrome, Victor Dashkov is Lissa’s seemingly caring uncle – until he kidnaps her from the Academy and tortures her until she agrees to use her powers and heal him. His plan to keep Lissa hostage backfires and he is soon imprisoned but Victor holds vital information that Rose would give anything for so he may just get his freedom once again.


Victor Dashkov learned about spirit and knew that Lissa really controlled the element spirit. He wanted her to heal him of Sandovsky's Syndrome, a chronic disease that was slowly killing him and ultimately preventing him from being King, To test her power, he had Natalie lay the dead animals to see if Lissa could really bring them back to life. Eventually, he kidnapped her and forced her to heal him while distracting Rose and Dimitri by creating a lust charm that made them give in to their base instincts. He was captured and held in the Academy's cell but he convinced his own daughter to turn Strigoi so she could free him. He told Rose that he had planned a revoultion that would make him become king

Unlike most of the royals in St. Vladimir’s Natalie prefers to keep to herself and rarely takes part in the royal party lifestyle. Very chatty and sometimes quite dull, Natalie is seemingly a normal Moroi girl, however on her father’s orders she spends the majority of Vampire Academy spying on Lissa, trying to catch her in the act of using Spirit. It is also revealed that Natalie is behind the trail of dead animals left in Lissa’s path. At the end of Vampire Academy, Natalie turns Strigoi on Victor’s orders, by killing the elderly Salvic arts teacher, Mr. Nagy. She then proceeds to help her father attempt to escape and attacks Rose in the process however Dimitri interrupts and kills her
